Superintendent's Message

The Waverly City School District has received the designation as an Effective School District from the Ohio Department of Education. Three of the buildings in the district are rated as effective by the State Department of Education and for the third year in a row the Waverly Jr. High has been designated by the State Department of Education as Excellent.

During the upcoming school year the Waverly City School District will continue to implement programs and interventions designed to enhance the attainment of academic goals set forth for the district and each building as developed through staff participation in the Ohio Improvement Process. Staff development programs throughout the school year will focus on intervention techniques and the analysis of data and curriculum as it relates to enhancing individual student achievement. The district will implement the use of additional computer enhanced research based intervention and instructional programs as well as continue to expand the Response To Intervention model in each building within the district. In an effort to continue to provide our students an opportunity for a challenging and competitive curriculum Waverly High School will offer an Advanced Placement English class in addition to the existing Advanced Placement Calculus course beginning with the 2011-12 school year. A Statistics course has also been added to the schedule.

The Waverly City School District continues to upgrade the technology accessible to our students which will continue to give them a competitive edge in the educational environment. By having the latest technological developments at their fingertips, teachers are able to challenge students to achieve their highest potential and prepare them for a workplace that is becoming increasingly competitive and demanding. Over the last three years the district has through donations and grants been able to provide Interactive Whiteboards for use in several classrooms throughout the district. The district continues to seek funding sources or donations for the purchase of additional boards to enhance the learning in all classroom in each building.

Last school year, Waverly students again excelled academically, athletically and in the fine arts. Students in the vocal and instrumental music programs once again attained several award and prestigious recognitions throughout the school year. In addition, the drama and music departments put on outstanding productions throughout the school year. District sports teams and individuals continued to be competitive in our league as well as at the State Level. The district's award winning student news team is active in producing a news show on Channel 25 which provides information to our community with regards to our school activities and events. Students in service clubs such as Rotary Interact; PAWS; and the LEO Club continue to be active in our school and community.

Waverly City Schools continue to strive for excellence. We look forward to continuing in our joint effort with staff, parents and community to provide the best in educational educational programs with the children of the Waverly District.

Respectfully,

Cheryl Francis
Superintendent
