WJH principal Ferdie Marquez

Waverly Junior High is ready to get started on a brand new year, meet WJH principal Ferdie Marquez

This year will mark Ferdie Marquez’s eighth year as principal at Waverly Junior High. Marquez has held several roles in the district in his more than two decades of service including eighth grade science, intervention specialist, math teacher, dean of students and coaching football.

“Working with this age group is a unique experience, watching the students enter as sixth graders and then grow and mature over the three-year period is a neat process to witness. When students leave the building as eighth graders it is genuinely gratifying,” said Marquez. “Developing a junior high culture of student learning and growth so students can have a solid foundation entering high school is challenging, but so worth it.”

Marquez, his wife Melissa, and all three of their sons graduated from Waverly High School, “As a 1986 graduate of Waverly High School it is truly a privilege to serve the community and children of Waverly. It is a blessing to have the opportunity to pay it forward to a community that has supported and raised me and my family.”
